The project sponsor is an individual who typically has a permanent position within the organisation and the role of project sponsor is generally considered in addition to the sponsor’s ‘day job’.
The organisation’s governance practices should make it clear everyone knows who the particular project sponsor is, how the sponsor is selected, their accountabilities and responsibilities, as well as the relationship between the sponsor and the project manager and between the project and the business. Core components of the role include:
- Taking accountability for the project
- Supporting the project manager
- Supporting the project
QTC provides support and guidance to both organisations’ and individuals’ around both clarity and performance of the Project Sponsor role.
